XJAZZ lab Workshop
6 days workshop is part of XJAZZ Festival (May 7th-12th 2019).
XJAZZ lab Workshop offers an opportunity to improve your skills through a set of lessons, ensemble, masterclasses, panels, jam sessions and concerts.
The workshop covers topics of traditional Jazz & music education, music business & career aspects, improvisation & communication skills and influences from other genres such as Electronica, World & Classical music.
The lecturers are selectively chosen from Berlin's artists as well as international guests that perform at XJAZZ festival.
In addition to the ensemble teachers Britt-Ann Flechsenhar (voc), Paul Kleber (bass), Rainer Winch (drums), Christian Kögel (guit) and Sebastian Studnitzky (piano & trumpet) there will be masterclasses included with:

Free entrance to more than 50 XJAZZ concerts and jam sessions will be given to the workshop members
The workshop will culminate in performances - the final result of the ensembles which will be part of XJAZZ festival program
The XJAZZ lab Workshop is designed for musicians aged 16 or over.
The maximum number of atendees is 35.
All lectures will be held either in German or English language.
The workshop will take place at the music school Kreuzberg. The so called "Studienvorbereitung Jazz" is part of their Jazz department and is a special program to prepare young players for auditions at Jazz conservatories in Germany. We will use their rooms for lessons, ensembles and one auditorium for masterclasses with artists from the XJAZZ festival's line up.
Sebastian Studnitzky (workshop director & trumpeter) is one of the founders and artistic director of XJAZZ Berlin. He performs worldwide with his projects KY & MEMENTO as well as with artists such as Nils Landgren, Mezzoforte and Jazzanova. He recorded with Nightmares on Wax, Dominic Miller, Wolfgang Haffner, Moritz von Oswald. He’s currently the Jazz-trumpet professor at the Jazz Institut Berlin and at Musikhochschule Dresden.
Christian Kögel (guit) studied classical guitar at UDK Berlin and Jazz guitar at Jazz Institute Berlin. He also plays the Oud. He was international touring with Jazz-bands as well as several crossover projects like Flexkögel, Jazzanova live, Paul Brody, Safar. He teaches guitar at JIB (Jazz Institute Berlin and StuVo Jazz at music school Kreuzberg.
Paul Kleber (bass) studied classical and Jazz double bass at UDK Berlin. He has performed in more than 40 countries with bands like Jazzanova live, Studnitzky, Micatone, Lisa Bassenge Trio, Emiliana Torrini, Jazz indeed, Benny Lackner and Fink. Paul Kleber is also a drummer, producer, and he constantly explores crossover from jazz and electronica.

Landesmusikakademie Berlin is supporting music education on all levels by collaborating with schools, music schools, social clubs, associations and providing all kinds of music education programs.
Musikschule Kreuzberg offers a variety of Jazz & Pop classes and has special designed courses to prepare students for auditions at Jazz conservatories.
JIB (Jazz Institut Berlin) is the jazz department of the music conservatories in Berlin. During one afternoon you will visit their building and you will be introduced to the institute, its facilities, to the content of their courses as well as the requirements for auditions. Selected professors will also give masterclasses.
